Lundberg named Student of the Year at AIB

Amanda Lundberg of West Des Moines was selected by the faculty at AIB College of Business as the Court Reporting and Captioning Student of the Year for 2011-2012.

“Amanda is the personification of the ideal student. She does her work, has a wonderful attitude, goes above and beyond what is expected and is friendly and kind. She is truly a joy to have in class,” said Professor Kay Smith, recently retired chair of AIB’s Court Reporting and Captioning Department.

Lundberg, a graduate of Norwalk High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in political science and music before deciding to train in the captioning field. She completed an associate degree in Steno Transcription in 2011 and has taken additional classes to build her speed and captioning skills.

“Amanda has a drive to succeed that will take her wherever she chooses to go in her captioning career,” said Erika Inglett, a member of AIB’s Court Reporting and Captioning faculty. “I know she has a bright future.”

Lundberg served as president of AIB’s Student Court Reporters and Captioners Association and enrolled as a student member of the Iowa Court Reporters Association and the National Court Reporters Association. She has also played in the Des Moines Community Orchestra.

AIB announced in March that it is refocusing its curriculum to emphasize majors in core business fields and will no longer enroll new students in its Court Reporting and Captioning majors – although it will continue those programs until 2015 while current students progress toward graduation.
