Last year, Liz Langer, an elementary school teacher in Wisconsin, received an iPad from her school district after she expressed an interest in utilizing iPad technology to further engage her students. She enrolled in Wisconsin Lutheran College’s iPad in Education course, and has continued to research and discover remarkable ways to increase student achievement in her classroom through its use.
District Support
Following her enrollment in WLC’s iPad in Education course, and her attendance at the SLATE (School Leaders Advancing Technology in Education) conference, she created an incredible Prezi presentation asking her district to support additional iPads for her classroom. View Prezi 
In January 2012, her district surprised her with six iPads. Since then, she’s been named a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellow through which both Liz and her school receive $1,000. She hopes to utilize that funding for additional iPads.
Increased Student Engagement
“My kids are so excited to use iPads.” Liz has her 23 students work in groups, sharing the seven iPads and has even incorporated them into their reading time. “I really feel their concentration level and motivation is much higher when using iPads.” 
“Students go home and download our classroom apps on the family iPad, if they own one. I have students emailing me projects they are doing at home, with their family, for fun!” Students in Liz’s classroom place many of their projects on blogs, so they can share them with others. Instead of a weekly print newsletter, she is using iMovie and has students writing, typing on the iPad teleprompter, producing background images, and filming. View Class Website
Professional Development
Not only have her students benefited from the use of iPads in her classroom, but now Liz is sharing her knowledge with other educators as well. Her presentations at upcoming conferences include blogging, Web 2.0, and iPad use in the classroom. View Wikispace
