Olejniczak Named Accounting Student of the Year at AIB

Amy Olejniczak of Ankeny was selected by the faculty at AIB College of Business to receive the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accounts (ISCPA) Outstanding Accounting Student Award for the 2011-2012 academic year.

“Amy was one of the hardest-working accounting students to ever sit in my classroom,” said Professor Larry Murphy, department chair of accounting at AIB. “She had a positive ‘can-do’ attitude about every new topic. Her effort, energy and enthusiasm helped raised the performance level of other students in the class.”

Olejniczak credited her success to the quality of AIB’s accounting faculty. “I knew my professors cared about me and wanted me to succeed,” she said. “They prepared me for my career and were there to offer help and advice.”

Each year, ISCPA joins with AIB and many other post-secondary schools across Iowa to recognize the achievements of students such as Olejniczak who have excelled academically in accounting courses and set a positive example for other students. ISCPA is a statewide association representing more than 4,500 members in public accounting, business, industry, government, nonprofit organizations and education.

Olejniczak served as treasurer of the AIB chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and president of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), the AIB student affiliate of ISCPA. Professor Kelly Swinton, the IMA faculty advisor, characterizes Olejniczak as an “amazing leader” who leads by example and always has a smile on her face.

Accounting instructor Amanda Daugherty praises Olejniczak’s positive attitude and her willingness to help her classmates before and after class. Olejniczak served on campus as a student tutor in addition to assisting Swinton in checking student work.

A 2009 graduate of Ankeny Christian Academy, Olejniczak completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in just three years through AIB’s “Degree in 3” program. She begins workat CliftonLarsonAllen as a tax associate in November and is in the process of becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She already passed the Regulations section of the CPA exam in July and is studying for the Business Environment and Concepts section.

As Olejniczak concentrates on future plans – such as her December wedding to Jason Cameron, a fellow student and a basketball player at AIB – she reflects fondly on her AIB experience.

“I was able to learn, have fun, be involved on campus, attend athletic events and, most importantly, obtain a job after college,” she said. “I would pick AIB again.”
